A supervised “Research Essay” is worth 6 ECTS credits (1 ECTS credit is equal to 25 hours of work). Students should select “Research Essay” in their course workload. The Research Essay is supervised by and coordinated with a tutor affiliated to the Collegio di Architettura. Students will define with the tutor the topic of the essay. The DPA referee will register the credits upon verification with the tutor of the final evaluation of the essay.

The learning outcomes of the research essay are for students to: - gain deeper knowledge of a specific issue concerning one or more disciplines among those that characterise the DPA learning pathway. - gain the autonomous capability of writing and discussing on specific issues, which is instrumental to future research work.

The research essay is a 6CFU optional activity and therefore, its development should be consistent with a workload of approximately 150 work hours. The topic of the research essay is discussed and agreed between the student and the tutor. The tutor is responsible feasibility of the research and its program. It is recommended that the student choose its topic among those forwarded/suggested by the tutor. The research essay, once completed, will be evaluated and discussed with the teacher/tutor, who will grade the essay. The grade will be then registered by the Referente del Corso di Study (degree supervisor), just as any other exam.

Research Activity: students are recommended to systematically collect and organise literature references, drawings, photos, etc. Bibliographic references: students have to set up their specific bibliography with reference to the selected research topic. Evaluation: The research essay is positively completed if the tutor's evaluation range from 18/30 to 30/30. The grade will reflect the overall quality of the research, but also the student's writing skills, the complexity and originality of the topic, the competence shown in the specific discipline, the student's autonomy. .
Gli studenti e le studentesse con disabilità o con Disturbi Specifici di Apprendimento (DSA), oltre alla segnalazione tramite procedura informatizzata, sono invitati a comunicare anche direttamente al/la docente titolare dell'insegnamento, con un preavviso non inferiore ad una settimana dall'avvio della sessione d'esame, gli strumenti compensativi concordati con l'Unità Special Needs, al fine di permettere al/la docente la declinazione più idonea in riferimento alla specifica tipologia di esame.

In addition to the message sent by the online system, students with disabilities or Specific Learning Disorders (SLD) are invited to directly inform the professor in charge of the course about the special arrangements for the exam that have been agreed with the Special Needs Unit. The professor has to be informed at least one week before the beginning of the examination session in order to provide students with the most suitable arrangements for each specific type of exam.
