This optional class aims to provide students of the Master of Science in Management Engineering the conceptual basis and the methodological approaches related to Sustainable Manufacturing, from the guidelines to the tools for the performance analysis of a manufacturing system. This knowledge, together with the classical tools for the evaluation of efficiency, effectiveness and economy of a production system, will be necessary for the implementation of decision-making strategies in sustainable production. The teaching of such tools is completed by some examples of application in real industrial cases.
This course aims to provide students with the conceptual foundations and methodological approaches related to manufacturing for sustainability, from the guidelines to the tools for performance analysis of a manufacturing system. This knowledge, together with the classical tools for evaluating the efficiency, effectiveness and economy of a production system, will be necessary for the implementation of decision-making strategies towards sustainable production. The teaching of these tools is completed by some examples of their application in real industrial cases.
The expected learning outcomes in terms of knowledge and skills can be resumed as follows: - Knowledge: to evaluate, in view of sustainable production, the performance of a manufacturing system through the analysis of processes and consumed resources; - Skills: to select sustainability indicators and criteria for analysis, to associate them with models and analytical methods, and to estimate the level of performance of a company or of a production system.
The expected learning outcomes in terms of knowledge and skills can be resumed as follows: - Knowledge: to evaluate, in view of sustainable production, the performance of a manufacturing system through the analysis of processes, consumed resources and related emissions; - Skills: to select sustainability indicators and criteria for analysis, to associate them with models and analytical methods, and to estimate the level of performance of a company or of a production system.

Modalitą di esame: Prova scritta (in aula);
Exam: Written test;
... The exam consists of a written test containing theoretical questions, and exercises on the application of models and procedures discussed during the lectures. The exam usually lasts from two hours to two hours and thirty minutes. The student may withdraw within the first hour, and the use of books and/or other material is forbidden. The teacher will discuss the results of the written exam individually with each student who requests for it.
Exam: Written test;
The exam aims at ascertaining the knowledge of the topics listed in the official course program and the ability to apply the theory and related calculation methods to the solution of industrial problems (coherently with the Expected Learning Outcomes detailed above). The exam lasts 2 hours and consists of a written test containing theoretical questions (including open-ended questions, multiple choice questions, true or false questions) and exercises on the application of models and procedures discussed during the lectures. The use of books and/or other material is forbidden. The assessment is expressed in thirtieths and the exam is passed if the mark is at least 18/30. The exam results are communicated on the teaching portal, together with the date on which students can review the assignment and ask for clarifications.
In addition to the message sent by the online system, students with disabilities or Specific Learning Disorders (SLD) are invited to directly inform the professor in charge of the course about the special arrangements for the exam that have been agreed with the Special Needs Unit. The professor has to be informed at least one week before the beginning of the examination session in order to provide students with the most suitable arrangements for each specific type of exam.
