Il corso mira a fornire agli studenti conoscenze e strumenti sulle principali metodologie di ricerca che dovranno utilizzare con rigore scientifico durante il programma di dottorato in Ingegneria Gestionale e della Produzione, nonché nelle loro attività di ricerca futura. In particolare, gli studenti saranno resi autonomi nella formulazione di domande di ricerca adeguate alle diverse metodologie, nella redazione di review della letteratura e nella progettazione e conduzione di revisioni dei propri articoli.
The course aims to provide students with knowledge and tools on the main research methodologies that they will have to use with scientific rigor during the PhD program in Management and Production Engineering, as well as in their future research activities. In particular, students will become autonomous in formulating research questions appropriate to different methodologies, writing literature reviews, and designing and conducting reviews of their own articles.
È richiesto che gli studenti propongano un argomento per uno studio applicato partendo dal loro progetto di ricerca, da utilizzare durante le lezioni tematiche.
It is required that students propose a topic related to their research project to apply the theoretical contents illustrated during the thematic lectures.
Il corso è strutturato in quattro moduli.
Design della Ricerca: Il design di un progetto di ricerca (articolo scientifico, tesi di dottorato, progetto da sottoporre a finanziamento) è il primo aspetto fondamentale che uno studente deve conoscere all’inizio del dottorato di ricerca, al fine di avere chiara in mente la struttura e le finalità comunicative della scrittura scientifica, e aspetti chiave come la novità e il contributo originale della propria ricerca. Un aspetto che verrà curato in tal senso è l’approccio allo sviluppo di un framework teorico.
Revisione della Letteratura: La revisione della letteratura è un passo essenziale da compiere nelle attività di ricerca al fine di identificare le evidenze disponibili e lo stato del “dibattito in corso” sui fenomeni che desideriamo studiare. In base agli obiettivi e ai contributi attesi con una revisione della letteratura, verranno illustrati diversi metodi, con un particolare focus sulla revisione sistematica della letteratura
Domande di Ricerca: Il modulo consentirà agli studenti di formulare domande di ricerca adeguate e coerenti con l’approccio metodologico desiderato (metodi quantitativi, qualitative, misti) a definire il proprio posizionamento rispetto alla letteratura esistente e a chiarire il proprio contributo. Alcune lezioni verranno dedicate, nel caso di studi quantitativi, a supportare gli studenti a formulare e argomentare ipotesi di ricerca coerenti.
Metodi di Ricerca: una panoramica sintetica degli approcci quantitativi e qualitativi disponibili per affrontare e rispondere a una domanda di ricerca. Questa lezione mira a aumentare la consapevolezza degli studenti riguardo ai possibili metodi da adottare per i propri progetti di ricerca.

The course is structured into four modules.
Research Design: The design of a research project (scientific article, doctoral thesis, project to be submitted for funding) is the first fundamental aspect that a student must grasp at the beginning of the doctoral research. This is essential to have a clear understanding of the structure and communicative purposes of scientific writing, and key aspects such as the novelty and original contribution of one's research. The relationship between the research design and theoretical frameworks will be explored.
Literature Review: Literature review is an essential step in research activities to identify available evidence and the current state-of-the-art on the phenomena we want to study. Different methods will be illustrated based on the objectives and contributions expected from a literature review, with a particular focus on the systematic review of the literature
Research Questions: This module will enable students to formulate appropriate and consistent research questions with the desired methodological approach (quantitative, qualitative, mixed). It helps define their positioning in relation to existing literature and clarify their contribution. Some lessons will be dedicated, in the case of quantitative studies, to supporting students in formulating and arguing coherent research hypotheses.
Research Methods: A concise overview of quantitative and qualitative approaches available to address and answer a research question. This lesson aims to increase students' awareness of possible methods to adopt for their research projects.
