The European Union expects marine renewable energy to make a strong contribution to the renewable energy mix by 2050 (https://research-and-innovation.ec.europa.eu/research-area/energy/ocean-energy_en). The main characteristic of marine renewable sources is that they do not use soil, so naturally they are more accepted by communities, especially in Europe, where the population density is very high and there is a significant cultural and landscape heritage. The course aims to give an overview of the main marine sources, with emphasis on wave energy and offshore wind energy, the two most promising sources in the marine energy landscape.
