The final dissertation of the Master of Science in Territorial, Urban, Landscape and Environmental Planning is an important experience within the Master curriculum. It must be prepared by the student under the guidance of a supervisor and possibly a correlator, which may be person not belonging to the Politecnico teachers too. The final dissertation elaboration normally require the application of lessons learned in several courses and studios, integration with additional elements and the ability to propose innovative ideas. The student is offered an alternative: - to develop a research thesis, with the objective of studying a particular topic, - to develop a thesis including a period of internship. The Master final dissertation amounts to 30 credits. In the case of the vocational thesis it includes 10 credits of internship. The final dissertation topic is identified by the student within the disciplines in the curriculum of the Degree course with reference work experience undertaken during the internship, and must be agreed with the thesis supervisor. The thesis is individual and should be discussed individually. Thesis group elaborated by a are allowed (usually 2, a maximum of 3 components) only in the case of complex and articulated works. In this case each student has to indicate what part of the thesis he/she developed and to present it during the discussion. The thesis contains an abstract in English, can also be prepared and presented in the English: in this case it contains an abstract in Italian. The text of the thesis may be accompanied by illustrations and drawings. Procedures and details for the final dissertation are specified in the Academic Regulations of the Master Course. The student must demonstrate ability to work independently, mastery of the topics covered in the dissertation, ability to communicate the content and to support discussion. In assigning the rating the examining board should consider the following criteria: - originality of the thesis, - examination of the theme and methodological approach, - ability to present the content - ability to argue his/her own thought. The title of the dissertation must be agreed at the beginning of the fourth semester or at least 3 months before applying for admission to the final defense.
Exam:
In addition to the message sent by the online system, students with disabilities or Specific Learning Disorders (SLD) are invited to directly inform the professor in charge of the course about the special arrangements for the exam that have been agreed with the Special Needs Unit. The professor has to be informed at least one week before the beginning of the examination session in order to provide students with the most suitable arrangements for each specific type of exam.
