The Final Project in Mechanical Engineering has the purpose of verifying the student's ability to deal autonomously with a technical/scientific problem and the ability to present the activities carried out by effectively dealing with a technical discussion. For students who have done or are doing an internship, the final exam consists normally in the preparation of the internship report and in the presentation of the activities to the Graduation Commission. Students must make the request online using a special procedure available on their personal page of the educational portal in the section called "Request Final Project" (under the teaching load tab), respecting the deadlines for the session of interest published on the “Manifesto” of studies. Request mode: a) Students with Internship: the student must indicate the company he/she has been doing or is doing the internship with, the subject of the internship and the Academic Tutor. The Commission will assign the Final Project Tutor, who normally coincides with the Academic Tutor. b) Students who have already contacted a professor of the Politecnico for the final exam: the student must indicate the agreed topic and the name of the teacher. The Final Project Commission approves the proposal. If the Commission does not approve the proposal, it will automatically assign a new Final Project Tutor. This includes students who are part of a student team and wish to present their activity as a Final Project; in this case they must indicate the Team in which they are engaged in and the teacher identified as the Team's Academic Responsible. c) Students who directly request the assignment of a final exam: the Commission indicates the name of a Final Project Tutor; the student must agree with the Tutor the topic to be discussed. Within the deadline indicated in the “Manifesto” of studies to present the graduation application, the student must obtain the approval of the work by the Final Project Tutor. This approval, together with passing all the exams will allow the student to participate in the relevant graduation session. The report must be sent to the Final Project Tutor by depositing the file in the shared folder on the educational portal in PDF format. This report can be written in English. A calendar of presentations of candidates who have been approved by their Tutor will be published. The Graduation Commission will carry out the evaluation and determine the degree mark. The proclamation, in public session, will take place according to the calendar prepared by Politecnico di Torino.
The final exam activity concludes the educational path of the Bachelor level degree. It aims at assessing the student's ability to analyse, independently and with appropriated deepness, a technical-scientific problem concerning the attended course topics or exploring subjects dealing with the Master of Science. It consists in producing a written document, which does not necessarily involve original content: thus, it can be mostly based on the study and elaboration of already available technical documentation. The activity is carried out under the guidance of a tutor who may be selected by the student and is formally assigned by the Degree program Final Tests Committee. When assigning the tutor, the Committee will take also into account the student's possible attendance of a company internship or participation to a project of a students’ team.
Modalità di esame: Prova orale obbligatoria;
Exam: Compulsory oral exam;
... The Report have usually a length between 10 and 20 pages. The presentation has a maximum duration of 15 minutes, including discussion. The presentations must normally have a maximum of 12 slides.
Exam: Compulsory oral exam;
The written document is expected not to exceed indicatively thirty pages and it is prepared following the commonly accepted guidelines for a technical report at international level. The tutor will guide the student and provide indications when useful or necessary. Based on the written document, the student is required to perform a short oral presentation in the presence of a graduation committee composed by academic staff of the Politecnico di Torino and specifically set up for the purpose.
In addition to the message sent by the online system, students with disabilities or Specific Learning Disorders (SLD) are invited to directly inform the professor in charge of the course about the special arrangements for the exam that have been agreed with the Special Needs Unit. The professor has to be informed at least one week before the beginning of the examination session in order to provide students with the most suitable arrangements for each specific type of exam.
