The preparation and composition of the Master of Science thesis represents an important moment of training and education, besides a compendium of the student’s path in Mechanical Engineering.
It consists in the elaboration of a written text, with related possible numerical and graphical representations. It has to be composed in an original way by the student, under the guidance of one or more professors or senior researches of this Athenaeum, preferably chosen within the academic staff of one’s own curriculum of studies. A co-tutorship by an expert outside the Politecnico di Torino is viable, as well as involving professors or researches from other institutions, national or international, or other specialists on the subject of the thesis.
The majoring candidate is asked to carry out, with appreciable autonomy, a deep acknowledgement of a technical problem, typically related to its engineering, design, simulation or modelling. The elaboration requires, as a regular base, that the candidate devotes a critical attention to the documents accessible in the technical-scientific literature and elaborates the problem by proposing adequate engineering solutions. The activity can the carried out at the Departments, interdepartmental centres or laboratories of this Athenaeum. It can be carried out also at other Italian or foreign Universities, at external research laboratories, at industries, service companies or professional studies, with which collaboration relationships have already been formally established; however, the availability of a professor of the Politecnico di Torino has to be preliminary verified.
