Internships are offered to students as the first real chance to gain experience in the world of work. An internship gives you the opportunity to put into practice what you have learned during your studies and it will help you decide about your future professional career. Politecnico di Torino promotes internships and guarantees insurance coverage both for civil liability and occupational injuries. Before starting an internship, you need to include it in your Personal Study Plan/Annual Personal Study Plan in the academic year in which you would like to do your internship. The internship is part of a training project agreed among you, your academic tutor and your company tutor. The internship is worth 6 CFU and corresponds to a workload of 150 hours. The activity takes place at a host institution (public or private) and the hours will be distributed over a period no longer than 6 months, which may also not correspond to an academic semester. In addition to the hours of activity at the host institution, you must consider that there will be hours for the preparation of a brief final report. Minimum number of ECTS credits required to begin your internship: 48; You are not allowed to an internship at Universities or Research Centers; For internships abroad: your cannot have the citizenship or being native of the country where the internship period is carried out, except for double citizenships. Exceptions to this rule are represented by cases in which the host company has institutional relations with Politecnico di Torino in the context of existing and valid framework agreements or research contracts or double-degrees programmes; The internship must be included in the Annual Personal Study Plan at the beginning of the academic year. It can be replaced (at the end of the semester) with a course of your choice (but you cannot do the opposite).
Detailed information about the internship program can be found in the STUDENT GUIDE, under the INTERNSHIP section, for the current academic year.
You can find the instructions about the platform that you need to use to upload your internship project and to report the internship progress till its completion at: https://www.polito.it/en/education/applying-studying-graduating/internships-and-thesis/curricular-internships-in-italy https://www.polito.it/en/education/applying-studying-graduating/internships-and-thesis/curricular-internship-abroad You must choose your Academic Tutor (depending on the subject of your internship) among the tenured professors of your degree programme. If the professor agrees, he/she will become your Academic Tutor. Extending the duration of your internship: internships have a given duration (hours) and carry a certain number of credits as specified in the Annual Personal Study Plan. You can extend the duration of your internship (number of hours) by selecting one of the options available in the field “Expected no. of hours”. You can only do this operation before the beginning of your internship and not while you are doing it. In any case, you cannot do more than 900 hours (maximum amount of hours may vary for each study course). Any request to extend the duration of an internship must be decided together with the Host Company. It MUST also be approved by a Polito faculty member (your Academic Tutor or the Internship Coordinator of your degree programme) who may reject your proposal. In this case, you need to make a new proposal and fill out a new training project. If your training project is approved, it means that the extension of your internship and the extra hours have been accepted as well. At the end of an internship with extended duration, you will see that the internship is recorded in your transcript as follows: INTERNSHIP with standard hours/credits in accordance with the rules of your degree programme (i.e. 6 credits/150 hours) plus the annotation “curricular internship extension” with your extra hours/credits. These credits will be recorded in your transcript as credit overload (they do not count towards the 120-credits threshold required for Master’s graduation). Internship Coordinator: Prof. Panepinto Deborah (deborah.panepinto@polito.it) *** You are not allowed to obtain the recognition of activities that you have already carried out. The internship is considered as an activity formulated from scratch. However, you are allowed to request the recognition of professional skills in substitution for your free choice credits. Please follow the procedure explained in the "Student Guide": free choice credits ---> other learning activities ---> other learning activities outside the University.
