2024/25
The final examination has a value of 18 credits. The development and writing of the thesis is normally carried out during a period of approximately 3.5 months of a full-time work, consisting of 18 credits thesis or, alternatively, of 6 credits company internship, followed by 18 credits of thesis. The subject of the thesis can be an analysis, a project or an application of innovative nature, relating to topics consistent with the educational objectives of the course of study, and the development of a concluding written paper (Thesis). The lectures in the second year are distributed in such a way that an adequate period can be devoted to the development of the final examination. Students who have completed the remaining coursework are admitted to the final examination.
The Master's thesis represents an overall verification of the global student’s knowledged both in terms of technical aspects and of activity management, communication and individual working skills, in relation to the development of complex analyses or projects. The activities included in the final examination normally require the application of what has been learnt in more than one subject, the integration of additional elements and the ability to propose innovative ideas.

The topic and activities relating to the final thesis are agreed with the thesis supervisor, who will act as academic supervisor and will be responsible for guiding the student in his/her training and development of the proposed activity. Students must make the request for the thesis topic on-line through a special procedure available on their personal page of the teaching portal in the section entitled "Thesis", respecting the deadlines for the session of interest published in the Student Guide - Thematic Calendar Section. The thesis normally consists of the development of the analysis and design of complex systems, solutions or components, resulting from the application of what has been learnt in the course of study and from the integration of these with additional elements such as the ability to propose innovative ideas. In the event that the activities are carried out at other research organisations or industries, the student will also be supervised by a tutor from the external organisation who will follow the student outside the Politecnico.

To this average, the committee may normally add up to a maximum of 8 points, taking into consideration: • the assessment of the work carried out for the thesis (commitment, autonomy, methodological rigour, relevance of the results achieved, etc.); • the presentation of the thesis (clarity of presentation, etc.); • the excellence of the course of study (e.g. the number of cum Laude awarded) • the time taken to complete the studies, etc... Honours may be awarded upon reaching a total score of 112.51 at the discretion of the committee. If the thesis has the necessary characteristics, dignity may only be granted if the final mark is one hundred and ten cum laude and the committee's opinion is unanimous.
