The course is taught in English. This is an eligible course for the Master Degree in Computer Engineering, focused on Embedded Systems, and it is eligible course for the Master Degree in Mechatronic Engineering. The course aims at presenting the most relevant network technologies for connected vehicles. Starting from the network architecture of a vehicle, the most relevant protocols will be described at the vehicle level, as well as the vehicle to infrastructure and the vehicle to vehicle levels. The course will also address the knowledge of simulation and analysis tools typically used in the industry such as Vector CANalyzer/CANoe. Moreover, localisation techniques will be presented.
The course is taught in English. The course aims at presenting the most relevant network technologies for connected vehicles. Starting from an overview of Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS), we will present the network architecture of a vehicle, the most relevant protocols at the vehicle level, as well as the protocols for the communication between vehicle to infrastructure and vehicle to vehicle. The course will also address the knowledge of simulation and analysis tools typically used in the industry such as Vector CANalyzer/CANoe. 12 hours will be dedicated to a lab project using a simulator to investigate the communication between vehicles. Finally, an overview of navigation and localisation techniques will be presented.

The course is organised in lectures that can be: formal lectures were novel concepts are presented, exercise lectures where the theory concepts are addressed through numerical examples, and practical lectures where activities will be implemented using laptop computers the students shall bring in class.

The exam consists of four open questions to be answered in written form, covering the material addressed during the course. Each question is worth 8 points. At least one questions will be a numerical exercise similar to the exercises presented in class. The questions will aim at verifying the student's knowledge and understanding of the topics covered during the course. The exam will last one hour.
Gli studenti e le studentesse con disabilità o con Disturbi Specifici di Apprendimento (DSA), oltre alla segnalazione tramite procedura informatizzata, sono invitati a comunicare anche direttamente al/la docente titolare dell'insegnamento, con un preavviso non inferiore ad una settimana dall'avvio della sessione d'esame, gli strumenti compensativi concordati con l'Unità Special Needs, al fine di permettere al/la docente la declinazione più idonea in riferimento alla specifica tipologia di esame.
Exam: Written test;
The goal of the exam is to verify the preparation of the students with respect to the expected learning outcomes written above. Consultation of books, slides and external material during the exam is NOT allowed. The exam consists in a written test made of four open questions to be answered in written form, covering the material addressed during the course. The questions will yield a total of 28 points, awarded as follows: questions related to the internal network architecture of the vehicle are worth 8 points each; questions related to inter-vehicles communication are worth 6 points each. At least one question will be a numerical exercise similar to the exercises presented in class. Overall, the questions will aim at verifying the student's knowledge and understanding of the topics covered during the course. The exam will last one hour.
Up to 4 additional points will be awarded following the evaluation of an in-class simulation assignment. The total of the 28 points from the written test and the 4 additional points from the simulation assignment will grant the students the 30 cum laude evaluation.
In addition to the message sent by the online system, students with disabilities or Specific Learning Disorders (SLD) are invited to directly inform the professor in charge of the course about the special arrangements for the exam that have been agreed with the Special Needs Unit. The professor has to be informed at least one week before the beginning of the examination session in order to provide students with the most suitable arrangements for each specific type of exam.
