The course aims at making the students familiar with the concept of “city climate action” and its implementation at European level. In particular, it will be focused on the general definition of climate actions at urban scale and on the approaches promoted by two main EU initiatives: ¿ the Covenant of Mayors (CoM) for Climate and Energy, designed to provide local governments with a framework for their energy and climate action based on four principles (consistency and transparency, flexibility and adjustability, evaluation of the data reported, promotion and exchange of experience), and ¿ the Horizon Europe mission on climate neutral and smart cities, aiming at anticipating the climate neutrality targets in 100 EU cities by 2030 and at ensuring that they act as innovation hubs and examples to be followed by all the other European cities by 2050. Through hands-on analysis of climate city plans, the students will get a practical understanding of the challenges and opportunities of city climate action. 30 h of lectures; 1 week of independent group work by students is planned
