The course introduces the fundamentals of reconfigurable computing, focusing on FPGAs and reconfigurable systems-on-chip, including their internal architecture. It also covers the design of these systems, with an overview of hardware description languages, synthesis, routing, and SoC architectures. Particular attention is given to their use in safety-critical applications, discussing reliability, potential faults, and mitigation strategies. The course concludes with an overview of current research directions in the field.
