The teaching focuses on hydrogen as a possible sustainable alternative to fossil fuels, especially in the mobility sector. After a starting focus on the main characteristics of hydrogen, the course includes a first part concerning the production of green hydrogen through water electrolysis (WE) with renewable energy sources (wind, solar and hydroelectric energy), and a second part dedicated to the use of green hydrogen through low-temperature fuel cells (FC), especially in fleets of electric vehicles with hydrogen fuel cells (HFCEV). Final hints on multiphase characteristics of FC ans WE will be provided.

Students must have a basic knowledge of mathematics, physics, thermodynamics, chemistry and material properties.

The course will be divided into these topics: 1. Basic principles (cell potential and thermodynamics; electrochemical kinetics; transport phenomena). 2. Fuel cells (fundamentals; applications: stack design, materials, degradation and ageing phenomena). 3. Electrolyzers (undamentals; applications: stack design, materials, degradation and ageing phenomena).

... Students will be divided into groups. Each group will choose a topic from the lectures and give a group presentation on the selected topic, illustrating the theoretical concepts and a practical application, to show the knowledge and technical skills acquired. The presentation must be made in English by the entire group, highlighting the contributions of each individual student in the group. The evaluation of the presentation and subsequent discussion is expressed in thirtieths and is carried out by considering: a) the correctness of the concepts expressed, within the given timeframe; b) the relevance of the information provided; c) the ability to respond clearly, accurately and rationally to the lecturers' questions. In the case of particularly brilliant answers, honours may be awarded.

In addition to the message sent by the online system, students with disabilities or Specific Learning Disorders (SLD) are invited to directly inform the professor in charge of the course about the special arrangements for the exam that have been agreed with the Special Needs Unit. The professor has to be informed at least one week before the beginning of the examination session in order to provide students with the most suitable arrangements for each specific type of exam.
