In this framework, the present course—the final one in the minor—builds the fourth pillar, interdisciplinary application, by synthesizing the skills developed across the program: measurement, process understanding, and data-driven analysis, applied to the integrated solution of an environmental problem. In this course, the interdisciplinary student cohort will culminate the knowledge-building pathway with Development and Application: a final project-based workshop in which students work in interdisciplinary teams to propose innovative solutions. The specific topics of the project-based workshop will be introduced and presented by external stakeholders actively working in the field.
D-TEA is composed of four courses delivered across two semesters in a sequential (non-parallel) format. This structure is designed to ensure a clear and coherent learning pathway. The linear organization serves two main purposes: • Focus and consolidation: Students from diverse disciplinary backgrounds can concentrate on one course at a time, promoting deeper understanding. • Progressive development of competencies: The minor follows a deliberate progression—from measurement and process understanding, to digital analysis, and finally to interdisciplinary application—ensuring curricular coherence and enabling students to effectively integrate their heterogeneous skills. At the end of this course, students are expected to be able to: • Apply machine learning techniques to environmental domains and problem settings. • Organise and manage a project, including planning, coordination, and monitoring of activities. • Use appropriate project management methods and tools to support effective delivery. • Work effectively in heterogeneous (interdisciplinary) teams. • Communicate technical and scientific content clearly to different audiences. • Disseminate project results through suitable formats and channels (e.g., reports, presentations, and public-facing outputs).

1. Project management and dissemination o Project planning and management strategies o Core project management tools (e.g., Gantt charts, work breakdown structures, scheduling, resource allocation and basic cost/human-resource accounting) o Risk management and progress monitoring o Communication and dissemination strategies for project results (technical reporting, presentations, and outreach to non-specialist audiences) 2. Interdisciplinary project-based workshop o Annual presentation of a selected set of interdisciplinary project briefs with involvement of stakeholders o Teamwork in groups of 3–4 students to design and develop a project solution o Allocation of one project to each team within key application areas o Development of project outputs and final presentation/deliverables as agreed in the project brief

To provide interested students with an international learning experience, part of the teamwork may be carried out within a COIL (Collaborative Online International Learning) framework framework developed within the Unite! Seed-Funded Project DTSWM project. Inclusion of this COIL and formal recognition is to be discussed with the lecturers.

The course is delivered in a blended format, with 50% asynchronous online activities to help students balance the additional workload of the minor with other study commitments. Theory components are offered mostly online, while laboratory sessions are conducted primarily in person, typically in interdisciplinary teams. Theoretical lectures (12 hours) Practical lectures (12 hours ) Laboratory sessions with project-based teamwork (36 hours)

... Achievement of the more theoretical learning outcomes will be verified through quizzes and tests administered during the course. Practical skills developed in the lab will be assessed through in-lab discussions and presentations and a concise written report summarizing the work

In addition to the message sent by the online system, students with disabilities or Specific Learning Disorders (SLD) are invited to directly inform the professor in charge of the course about the special arrangements for the exam that have been agreed with the Special Needs Unit. The professor has to be informed at least one week before the beginning of the examination session in order to provide students with the most suitable arrangements for each specific type of exam.
