Challenge@Polito_by Students is an innovative teaching activity carried out at the Politecnico di Torino. It is an integral part of the PoliTo’s strategy to promote innovative education and entrepreneurial culture among the students. The goal of these challenges is to involve students in learning initiatives capable of approaching them in the entrepreneurial world. The activities promote the early-stage ideas coming by students and give them the principles basic to develop their business projects. The process: the PoliTo selects a macro topic, up to 30 master’s students are divided into multidisciplinary teams and work, compete and develop their own solutions. The Challenges are carried out in an experimental educational laboratory: the CLIK - Connection Lab & Innovation Kitchen. During the challenge phase, students can experiment and practice what they have learned during their lectures in an informal and multidisciplinary environment that promotes the spirit of creativity and collaboration. Challenge@PoliTo_by Students - “NextGen Sport - Engineering the Future of Sport” Background Sport is evolving into a powerful innovation ecosystem where engineering, digital technologies, and data science play an increasingly important role. Advances in artificial intelligence, wearable devices, smart materials, and sensing technologies are transforming performance analysis, training, rehabilitation, and user experience. Beyond competition, these innovations generate solutions with applications in healthcare, accessibility, smart cities, and workplace well-being. The Challenge invites multidisciplinary teams to design innovative solutions that contribute to the future of sport and society. Challenge Design an innovative technology-driven solution for sport. Possible challenge topics include: • AI and digital systems for performance monitoring and personalized training. • Wearable technologies for movement analysis and performance optimization. • Technologies for Injury prevention, rehabilitation, and inclusive sports. • Smart equipment, materials, and sports facilities. • Sport technologies with applications in healthcare, smart cities, and workplaces.

Every team will self-organize its own working time and methodology. But, they will have to spend about 1,5 hours/week, supported by mentors, in the N-Idee classroom, similar space or in remote, in addition to the joint alignment meetings (specified subsequently).
The Challenges of the second didactic period last 14 weeks; they start in February 2027 and end in June 2027. During Challenge, students have to work in multidisciplinary teams supported by a group of tutors, coming from PoliTo, with complementary backgrounds and competencies, under the lead of Professor Laura Gastaldi (DAUIN) and Professor Ada Ferri (DISAT). Joint meeting of 2 days. ● Problem Analysis and Idea Creation: two weeks in which the teams will analyze the problem in detail. A team of mentors will support the teams through weekly meetings. ● Idea Presentation – 1st Work Progress: each team will present (by a pitch) the problem and the proposed solution. Joint meeting of half-day. ● Prototyping and Development: teams will meet weekly in N-Idee classroom (or similar space or remote way) with mentors who will support the development of their projects. 11 weeks of teamwork. ● Two Mid-Check Presentations – 2nd and 3rd Work Progress: two half-day meetings on work progress during the Prototyping and Development phase. ● Final Presentation: the teams will present their projects through the pitch of the idea. Joint meeting of half-day at the end of the 14th week. Every team will self-organize its own working timeframe and methodology, but they will have to spend about 1,5 hours/week, supported by mentors, in the N-Idee classroom, in a similar space or remote. In addition to the message sent by the online system, students with disabilities or Specific Learning Disorders (SLD) are invited to directly inform the professor in charge of the course about the special arrangements for the exam that have been agreed with the Special Needs Unit. The professor has to be informed at least one week before the beginning of the examination session in order to provide students with the most suitable arrangements for each specific type of exam.
