Objectives of the course
This course introduces the main mathematical tools and related language to students coming from different kind of schools. It points on topics that will be important to studt technical physics and introduction to mathematics II.

Expected skills
By the end of the course the students are able to use differential and integral calculus to solve problems related to applied sciences; they also know a specific language and mathematical methods, useful to analyze and deal with different kind of problems.

Prerequisites
Equations, inequalities and systems with two variables. Basics of plane trigonometry. Cartesian plane: coordinates, distance, fundamental geometric locus and related Cartesian equations.

Syllabus
The course deals with differential and integral calculus. It begins with a survey elementary functions and their graphs; it continues with the notions of limit, continuity, differentiation and integration. Various techniques to compute limits, derivatives and integrals of elementary functions are presented, along with the fundamental theorems of calculus.
