Elements of radio propagation and antennas: Free-space propagation, atmospheric propagation: absorption, refraction, diffraction, reflection. Antenna models. Antenna noise.

Radio Links: Architecture of a radio link. Active repeaters, non-linear amplifiers, effects. Propagation problems. Passive repeaters. Fading: sources and mathematical models. The concept of availability. Space diversity. Selective fading, frequency diversity. The problem of interferences. Final remarks and comparison with other transmission systems

Satellites for Telecommunications: Historical notes. The space environment. Problems of antennas and propagation. The on-board repeater. Multiple access techniques: FDMA, TDMA, CDMA. Regenerative repeaters. Radio and TV broadcasting via satellite. Frequency reuse. Economic considerations.
