Objectives of the course
The aim of the course is to illustrates the general framework of management methodologies, standards and techniques employed to pursue the quality. Practical examples of real cases will be presented in order to transfer managerial ability to deal with quality problems.
Expected skills
Skills in implementing the main techniques of quality management and statistical process control (SPC).
Knowledge of topics covered in Mathematical Analysis I, Statistics and manufacturing technologies.
The meaning of quality and quality improvement in a business environment.
A brief history of quality methodologies.
Quality Terminology and ISO 9000:2000.
Quality management and quality management systems.
Managerial approach to data management.
General metrology and uncertainty concepts, instrumentation overview and applications, instrument evaluation procedures, reference measurement systems.
Error and Uncertainty.
Statistical Process Control.
Control charts: statistical basis, control charts for variables, control charts for attributes, choice of sample size and sample frequency. Operating characteristic function. Process capability analysis.
Laboratories and/or exercises
Numerical applications of lectures' themes. Students will analyze numerical data provided by teacher on a PC by using Minitab or Excel software.
