Objectives of the course
The course provides the basic concepts on guided and free-space propagation. the radiation of electromagnetic waves is studied and the main types of antennas are presented.
Prerequisites
Radiofrequency systems in telecommunications I
Syllabus
' Metallic wave guides: Prpagation modes and their characteristics. Rectangular and coaxial wave guides. Discontinuities: irises.
' Plane waves and polarization. Stratified media.
' Radiation and antennas: Antenna parameters and link budget equation. Elementary dipoles and half-wave dipoles. Horns and parabolic antennas. Antenna arrays. Printed antennas
Laboratories and/or exercises
Measurement of gain and antenna radiation pattern
Visit to a transmitting site of national interest
