Objectives of the course
This course is an introduction to common structural forms and building techniques, both in contemporary and historic architecture. General aims of the course are:
- typological knowledge of structures, depending on materials and building systems; - the spotting, for some simple structural typologies, of a mechanical model of building and of its corresponding static scheme; - the analysis of the static scheme of plane isostatic structures. There is a final exam, in order to verify the knowledge acquired: the students must solve some problems, answer questions on the theoretical aspects of the program, recognize and describe structural aspects of an architecture. |
Expected skills
By the end of the course, the student must be able to recognize the main strucutres of the architecture, interpreting their mechanical behaviour with the help of semplified static systems.
|
Prerequisites
Students must know algebra, trigonometry and elementary concept of physics.
|
Syllabus
- Morphology of buildings with steel, concrete, masonry and wood strucutre.
