Objectives of the course
This course aims to give students general knowledge of thoughts and experimentation of modern and contemporary town planning. Another important spot of this course is the study of urban plans as instruments and as important stages of town planning, focusing on Italy and Europe.
Expected skills
Skills in recognizing the technical and cultural nature of town planning and its role in socio-economical and political context.
Knowledge of general problems related to the I Industrial Revolution. Knowledge of Italian history from the II World War to nowadays.
The origins of modern town planning: utopians, reformists, paternalists; transformations of big European capitals during the Nineteenth century (Paris, Barcelona, Vien, the rehabilitation of Neaples).

Some important town planning of the Twentieth century: Amsterdam, Copenhagen, the big London.

Origins of town planning in Italy: town plans and extension plans.

Town planning in Italy: lows of 1942, the realization of town planning and executive tools introduced in the Italian law, modidication and integration of law 1150/42.

Intervention tools of the 90s: complex probrams.

Current discussion: urban equalization, structiral plan and executive plan.
