Objectives of the course
At the end of the course the student will be able to recognize the different styles, techniques and contents in modern and contemporary music.
The course is focused on the birth of modernity in history of Western music and on its principal ways of development during the past 150 years. The lessons will consider the most important composers of the late 19th and of the 20th century from the perspective of their key works, exploring fundamental genres such as symphonic music, chamber music and opera. A part of the lessons will also consider how new technologies have modifed creativity, enrichig music with new resources and new combinations of traditional instruments and machines. Many examples will be offered from Cds or sometimes live concerts.
Laboratories and/or exercises
Some of the concerts and conferences organised on Mondays in the Aula Magna are part of the course's syllabus.
The Italian text of the lessons will be avalaible online for students who attend the course.
