Subject fundamentals
The course aims at providing the basic knowledge of vehicle dynamics. Lectures will be devoted in particular to model and analyse the vehicle performance in terms of speed, acceleration, fuel consumption, braking, comfort and handling.
Moreover the course describes and models some vehicle components, such as tyres and chassis systems.
Expected learning outcomes
The student will acquire the knowledge in the following fields:
• Main factors influencing vehicle handling, driveability and safety;
• Tires and chassis (braking system, transmission, suspension and steering);
• Simplified mathematical models for vehicle dynamics analysis
• Analysis of vehicle performance
Prerequisites / Assumed knowledge
Knowledge of the dynamic behaviour of mechanical systems, basic differential and integral calculus, mechanics, technical design

Tyre mechanics (6 h)
Longitudinal dynamics - 1 dof (12 h)

Assessment and grading criteria
Written only test consisting in theoretical questions dealing with the course program, in particular vehicle dynamic behaviour and the main parameters affecting it.
Grade is proportional to the correctness and completeness of the answers to the proposed problems and questions.
