Objectives of the course
The aim of the course is to teach the students to critically and operatively understand the relationship between the specific features of a geographic context and its landscape, considered as a metaphor representing practices, ideas, images and as a tool for spatial analysis.
Expected skills
At the end of the course the student will be able to:
- use the concept of landscape to comprehend, from a geographical point of view, the transformation of the territory;
- relate spatial transformations with the interpretation of its landscape, considering both practices and produced images;
- understand the role of local actors (insiders and outsiders) in the production of landscape.
To attend the course it may be considered as a prerequisite to be able to understand which, in the geographical context, are the main components of the environmental frameworks, the historical and territorial matrix, the characteristics of urbanisation and the main features of urban growth in the Italian and European contexts.
