Objectives of the course
The course is aimed to give to the students the base knowledge for the structural mechanical design and for the strength verification in case of dynamic loading. Design and verification methods are presented in details, with particular reference to the numerical methodologies that are nowadays of particular professional interest. The students will receive also more general theoretical background that allows for the development of a sound technical competence that is needed in industrial environments characterized by evolution and innovation. Finally applications will be considered to get the desiderate link between theory and professional practice.
Expected skills
At the end of the course the student will have base knowledge for the structural mechanical design and for the strength verification in case of dynamic loading.
In order to attend with profit this course the student has to have already gained knowledge at an adequate extent of the contents and methods of the courses of Applied Mechanics, Strength of Materials, Machine Design. However it is not mandatory, although warmly recommended, to have passed those exams.
dynamic behaviour of structures and machines :
discrete systems with many degrees of freedom ,
modal analysis and modal transformation,
continuous systems,
imposed modal shapes, concentrate parameters methods, finite element method
iterative methods for the solution (Stodola)
direct integration of the motion equations: implicit and explicit methods
Laboratories and/or exercises
For each of the subjects treated during the lessons, exercises and practical applications will be proposed. Some of these applications will be developed in the CAD CAM CAE Lab.

Revisions / Exam
The exam consists of a written part followed by an oral part. In order to be admitted to the oral part the student has to have obtained at least 18/30 in all the parts in which the written part is subdivided. The oral part of the exam has to be fulfilled within the current exam period.
The student has to make his notification into the appropriate exam list within the usual advance period in order to be admitted to the intended exam part.
