Objectives of the course
To supply the basic knowledge of ISO 9000 Vision 2000 and of ISO/TS 16949 for the automobile sector and the main concepts of Total
Quality Management.
A preparation for the use of techniques and methodologies of measuring instrument management in Quality used for checking and
evaluating products and processes.
Syllabus
-QUALITY MANAGEMENT SYSTEM.


Definitions of the concept "quality". Value and cost of the quality. Evolution over the years of the concept of quality. The regulations ISO
for reference: fundamental structures and principles. Compatability with other management systems. Certifications (ISO 9000:2000 and
ISO/TS 16949 for the car industry). Criteria for quality management. Requirements for quality managment systems.


-REGULATIONS FOR QUALITY MANAGEMENT OF MEASUREMENTS AND TESTS.


The regulation ISO 17025 and the guarantee of compatibility of the measurement and test results. The regulation ISO 14253-1 for
tolerance verification. Efficient management of tests and measurements in line with ISP10012.
The main metrological characteristics of measurement: resolution, stability, reproducibility, accuracy. The measurement complex:
instruments, operators, ambient conditions and measurand. Management of the measurement traceability: the national and international
Metrological and Calibration Systems. The external and internal referibilty line.

Uncertainties in the measurement complex, international Standards UNI CEI ENV 13005 and ISO 14253-2 (PUMA method).


-HANDLING OF SOME COMMON MEASUREMENT INSTRUMENTS


Dimensional measurements; calibre, Palmer micrometer, transductors of displacement, Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM), gage
blocks.

Measurement of roughness.

Measurement of mass and density.


-THE STATISTICAL CONTROL PROCESS.


Variability and natural tolerance of the process. Control paper: general and basic statistics, paper for the anaylsis and laying down of the
cotrol conditions; control paper for variations and attributes; the effective curves of the control paper.
Choice of the numerosity and
frequency of the sample controls. Limits of the controls and specifications of the product: analysis of the process capacity.


-THE ACCEPTANCE CONTROL


The problem of acceptance and the sample plans. The effective curve characterictics. The resulting average quality. The regulations for
the defining of sample plans.


-RELIABILITY
Laboratories and/or exercises
Measurements with traditional methods and with CMM.

Examples of internal calibration of the first line standards (micrometer and inductive transducer).

Measurement of roughness.

Examples of testing and use of the control paper.


Didactic Material


Didactic material will be made available to students.


Exam Procedure


The exam consists of a written test and oral discussion of student's technical relations.
