Objectives of the course
The methods for optimisation of nonlinear functions of many variables are considered. The goal is to give insight of the various methods to potential users. Methods are compared with the use of case studies.

Conditions for extreme points
Iterative methods for optimisation
Fibonacci and polynomial search
Gradient and Newton methods
Conjugate gradient and related methods
QuasiNewton methods

Constrained problems
Gradient projection methods
Gradient restriction methods
Laboratories and/or exercises
The methods are used by the students in computer laboratories (MATLAB tools)
