Objectives of the course
This course aims to provide students an overview of techniques and methodologies used to design and develop 3D interactive virtual worlds. Algorithms to describe and animate 3D objects will be presented; moreover, programming techniques based on OpenGL will be illustrated to practical implement theoretical elements described during lectures. Basic notions of virtual reality over the Internet will be taught, too.
Prerequisites
Elementi di Informatica, Tecniche e linguaggi di programmazione, Informatica grafica e multimedialitÓ.
Syllabus
- Introduction to virtual reality and virtual worlds design
- Description, design and implementation of interactive and real-time 3D graphics applications
- OpenGL-based programming of 3D graphics applications
- Issues related to modeling and animation of virtual humans
- Virtual reality devices and technologies: data gloves, haptic devices, stereoscopic glasses and helms
- Human-computer interaction within virtual worlds
- Virtual reality over the Internet
Laboratories and/or exercises
Several exercitations in laboratory are devoted to study in depth methodologies and concepts presented during lectures; in particular, students have to design and implement a 3D interactive graphics application.
