Objectives of the course
To provide the basics of simple communication systems, starting from previous knowledge on signal theory
- Telecommunication systems overview: elements of a communication systems (source, transmitter, channel, receiver, destination), analog and digital modulation formats (amplitude, phase an frequency modulation), signal propagation via cables and wireless media (twisted pair wires, coaxial cable, optical fiber, microwave radio, satellite communications).
- Digital modulations: performance analysis of amplitude, phase and frequency modulations.
- Examples of applications: introduction to telecommunications in sensor-based systems (wired and wireless transmission, standard ZigBee).
