Objectives of the course
The course covers the basic topics of analytical processing in database systems. It deals with data warehouse design principles, physical access structures, physical data warehouse design, and OLAP querying. Most relevant data mining techniques, i.e. association rule mining, classification, and clustering are covered, also introducing current trends and most recent research results in the area.
Laboratory activity is devoted to the evaluation of the analytical processing features of the most popular commercial DBMSs.
