Subject of the course:
Roman towns, imperial seats of government and the spreading of Christian architecture in late antique period; the crisis of the urban culture and new forms of habitation in High Middle Ages; Byzantine and Muslim architecture; Carolingian Renaissance, monasticism, imperial Othonian architecture; the incastellamento and mobility of settlements; purchasing assignments by bishops and city-states in the main Italian towns (cathedrals, fortifications, places of civic power, urban services and facilities, places for commercial activities ); new towns (bastides, villenove, terre nuove); Franciscans (Minors) and Dominicans (Preachers) in medieval cities; Latins' architectures and quarters during the Crusades; purchasing assignments by the dynasties and the places of power during the Seigniory period in Late Middle Ages

Specialized course and training:
Italian baptistery architecture (in its urban, cultural and social context) in Middle Ages; case-studies chosen by students.
