Obiettivi dell'insegnamento
The module aims at introducing the leading edge localisation technologies, based on the use of Satellite navigation systems, as for example, the American Global Positioning System e the European system Galileo.

The module starting from the functional principles of position estimation and navigation technologies, describes the architectures of the satellite systems and the implementation and processing aspects related to user receivers.
In particular the lessons are focused to the study of navigation signals and their digital processing, identifying the uncertainty sources and the positioning errors.
Detection and mitigation techniques of disturbing effects are also discussed.

Exercises and demonstration will help the students to face case studies and simplified problems related to the signal processing in navigation receiver and the architectural design of mass-market and professional receivers.

As examples of applications GNSS positioning in Aeronautics is introduced comparing the performance with present radio aided systems (VOR-DME, ILS).
Location based services emerging by the synergies between personal wireless communications and positioning (NAV/COM systems and Assisted GNSS) will be also described.
