TITOLARE DEL CORSO: Prof. Christos Christopoulos - University of Nottingham

Professor Christos Christopoulos is Professor Emeritus at the University of Nottingham.
From 2003 to 2011 he was Director of the George Green Institute for Electromagnetics
Research (GGIEMR) at the University of Nottingham. In 2010 he was elected Fellow at
the Royal Academy of Engineering.
He is author of over 430 papers published in technical journals or presented at
international symposia, and author of 9 scientific books.

To introduce students to advanced techniques in computational electromagnetics and multi-physics modelling with a particular focus on methodologies for dealing in an elegant and efficient manner with multi-scale problems and complexity. The lectures will link modeling in electromagnetics to other applications such as thermal and vibrations thus illustrating how models in different physical domains are interrelated.
Programma

The aim of the course is to introduce students to advanced techniques in computational
electromagnetics and multi-physics modelling including methodologies for dealing in an elegant
and efficient manner with multi-scale problems and complexity. The lectures will link modeling in
electromagnetics to other applications such as thermal and vibrations thus illustrating how
models in different physical domains are interrelated.

COURSE TOPICS
Introduction to electromagnetic modelling (FDTD, TLM, FIT, MoM, FEM)
Generalized Discrete Models and Circuit Analogues
Introduction to thermal modeling
Introduction to modeling vibrations
Introduction to Electromagnetic Models
The problem of multi-scaling (objects electrically small and electrically large)
Embedding objects through local solutions (wires, arbitrary shapes)
Embedding objects through digital filter interfaces
Embedding generalized material properties
Mesh distortion (triangular and tetrahedral meshes)
