PERIODO: FEBBRAIO-MARZO The scope of the course is to provide an overview on the main issues concerning the future development of nuclear fission and fusion energy, addressing the critical questions of safety, technology, waste management, proliferation and cost.

Introduction to nuclear power generation and nuclear fission reactors. Safety aspects of nuclear power generation. The nuclear fuel cycle and the sustainability of nuclear power. Spent fuel and high-level waste management. Non-proliferation issues. Some aspects of nuclear power economics. Nuclear technology developments and innovative systems. The post-Fukushima perspectives of nuclear fission energy in the EU and in the rest of the world. Introduction to nuclear fusion. ITER, DEMO and beyond.
