Subject fundamentals
In this curse will be analyzed transformations happening in the audiovisual universe caused by the birth and development of digital technologies.
The course deepens recently introduced technologies and becomes the closing moment of the learning path of the visual and cinema languages knowledge developed during previous years.
The course consists in two modules, one dedicated to theoretical learing of digital aesthetics, and one focused on theoretical and practical learning of new shooting and photography technologies.
Expected learning outcomes
Theoretical Module
Knowledge of the fundamental elements of digital language.
Knowledge of the aesthetical transformations of audiovisuals products, caused by the digital age, in both mainstream digital cinema, independent cinema and television.
Knowledge of production and distribution methods of the digital universe.
Knowledge of the relationship between cinema, television and new media (from tablet to the net, etc.)
Knowledge of the transformations of professional roles in the digital age.
Practical Module
Knowledge of practical and theoretical practices needed to manage a digital movie set.
Knowledge of basic notions useful for professional directors and cinematographers with digital technologies.
Knowledge of the evolution and transformation of the digital shooting and lighting techniques.
Knowledge of digital editing and post production.
Knowledge of movie production in the digital era.
Creative use of new "non conventional" digital tools of filmaking (portable devices, gopro, etc.)
Prerequisites / Assumed knowledge
Students are not required prior knowledge, only skill in analyzing the media language and creative skills in the practical production.
Contents
Theoretical module
Learning will be faced by movie and audiovisual products watching (both complete or shorter clips), this way students will be able to get constant visual feedback of theoretical topics.

The course will focus on analyzing visual products which use, even in different ways, the new digital potential.
Practical module
During the practical course students will directly experiment professional practices tied to the digital filmaking. All the aspects of practical and theoretical cinematography aspects will be studied in depth. Many of the practical activities will take place outside the class, to let students "touch by hand" what digital filmaking means.
Delivery modes
Theoretical lesson will take place in the classroom.
Practical lessons will take place both in and outside the classroom .

Assessment and grading criteria
Final exam will consist in an oral test about the covered topics and on lectures suggested by the professors. Oral test has a duration of about 15-20 minutes.
