Presentazione
The course is taught in English.
The course is a group project involving construction of an item/product of significant complexity under conditions designed to give insights into industrial teamwork.
It includes design, construction and assessment through the course, ending with written and oral presentations.
In addition, the course aims at:
• presenting the basic concepts of
o Project managements
o Team building and Team managements
o Effective written and oral communications and presentations;
• presenting practical and direct testimonies from both industry and design centers, including mangers and researchers from domestic and international SMEs, biggest industrial players, and Research Institutions;
• improving students’ capabilities in communicating well and effectively, both in print and in person.

Students are clustered into groups of 3 or 4, supervised by a mentor.

The final assessment involves:
• group marks for the final item/product, along with the technical presentation and the documentation of the work;
• individual marks for process, that is, how well each team member participated and contributed.

Important remark

Thanks to the on-line availability of the prerecorded lectures, the course can be taken asynchronously with respect to its calendar scheduling and can thus be started in any moment, to best fulfill students’ requirements and constraints. Review meeting, presentations, and final reports are scheduled accordingly.
Risultati di apprendimento attesi
Having successfully completed the course, the participant will:
• Understand the basic concepts and the central issue of team building, process tracking, and process management;
• Get a significant practical hands-on experience on team building, process tracking, and process management;
• Learn how facing and takling a significantly complex design and implementation project, having it run on an advanced hardware/software platform;
• Learn how using open source project management tools;
• Experience both oral and written presentations;
• Learn about some significant industrial case studies, having met testimonies from domestic and international industries and design centers.
Prerequisiti / Conoscenze pregresse
The course is self-consistent and relies on the experiences students have acquired in their preceding university courses.
Programma
• Basic principles of Project management in practical applications, including project phases, project planning principles, essential elements of the plan, activity planning, milestones, work breakdown structures, risk management, and essential elements of the project implementation, crisis management, escalations and finally project completion activities;
• Basic principles of Team building and Team managements;
• Basic principles of effective written and oral communications and presentations;
• Using open source project management tools;
• Presentation of some significant industrial case studies, made by testimonies from domestic and international industries and design centers;
• Development of a group project involving construction of an item/product of significant complexity.
Organizzazione dell'insegnamento
• The lectures on Project Management, Team building and open source project management tools are pre-recorded. They all are available to be freely downloaded from the Course home page on the Politecnico Teaching Portal.
• Students are clustered into groups of 3 or 4, supervised by a mentor.
o The group composition is proposed by the students
o The mentor offers advice, monitors progress, and marks reports; it is not the mentor’s job to give technical advice, nor to lead or manage the group
o Identification of roles, as well as assignment to them, is up to the group.
• Each group is requested to deliver:
o A technical oral presentation
o Two final reports on the developed item/product:
