Presentazione
The course is subdivided into two main parts.
The first part (SM) is related to the continuum mechanics, the theory of elasticity and to the calculus of civil and oil structures made of different materials (i.e. concrete and metal). The subject is addressed according to the most modern formulations, suitable for numerical implementation.
The second part (AG) deals with rock mechanics fundamentals and the rock engineering application. The subject is based on the characterisation of rock materials and masses, on the solution of some typical conditions for surface-underground excavations, on the monitoring of natural - artificial structures as a part of the design methodology in geomechanics.
Risultati di apprendimento attesi
Ability to evaluate qualitatively and quantitatively the mechanical behaviour of man made (engineering works) and natural (rock masses) structures with reference to the main geomechanical properties of a rock material and of a rock mass as well.
Prerequisiti / Conoscenze pregresse
Basic knowledge of physics and mechanics, applied geology.

I. Definition and analysis of strains and stresses
II. Theory of elasticity
III. Theory of elastic beams
IV. Collapse of structures

C. Applied Geomechanics
I. Fundamentals of elasticity in rock mechanics; stress and strain
II. Rock materials and rock masses
III. Geotechnical characterization in lab and in field
IV. Strength criteria and behavior of rock materials
V. Geotechnical characterization of natural formations and behavior of rock masses
VI. Design methods in rock engineering
VII. Analyses of some geotechnical problems, surface and mining problems
VIII. Monitoring issues for rock engineering
Organizzazione dell'insegnamento
The course is based on lessons and worked examples during classworks. Some lab experience will be carried out in order to get some ability in practical testing operations.
