Objectives of the course
The module is intended to give the student an understanding of the interfacing problems between the electronic systems and the outside world and to a knowledge of the fundamental concepts of numerical and analogue electronics. Also included in this module are the micro-control systems, the back-ups and the communications protocol.
Knowledge of the modules of Mathematical Analysis I and II, Geometry, Experimental Physics I and II and the principles of Electrotechnics.
The didactic unit begins with the analysis of a complex electronic system, analysing the division in practical methods. There will be descriptions of functions, realization and characteristics of interfacings of various sub-modules. The course also includes the fundamental concepts relative to the instrumentations and to electronic measures, essential for the workshop training.
Identification of amplification blocks and signals conditioning, characteristic parameters, models, design specifications, limits of the model (distorsion, noise, offset, etc.).
Interfacing concepts, sensors, astuators, communications with the outside world in general.
Principle of the negative reactions, use of the operational amplifier to make amplifiers.
Identification of the elaboration structure, difference between analogical and digital signals, effect of noise and disturbances.
Principle of analogical-digital and digital-analogical conversions, data acquisition systems and problems of interfacing.
Circuits for the logic applications: introduction to electronics of the logic systems, logic families and their properties, combination and sequential logics, semiconductor memories, programmable logic devices.
Construction of the microprocessor unit, communication protocols and relative physical back-ups.
Technologies for the realization of electronic systems and apparatus.
Laboratories and/or exercises
There will be training in the classroom, computer study workshops, for electrical simulation and workshop hardware. The objective of the workshops is to verify that which has already presented in the lessons, highlighting the boundaries of the models used. The organization will be such as to favour group work and will require the writing up of reports. The workshops will be closely connected to the lesson topics. The use of pre-assembled circuits is planned.
The reference material will be made available on the topics covered in the lessons and on the applications developed in training.

Revisions / Exam
The exam consists of a written test which includes numerical exercises and multiple choice questions.
