Objectives of the course
The course aims to provide methodologies for risk analysis of technological systems to improve safety conditions for workers and to prevent or mitigate the risks from accidents.
The course is divided into two main parts: the first part presents the techniques applied to the analysis of safety and risk assessment, and the second part is oriented to the clarification of relevant information and techniques for the assessment and management of risks (Seveso Directive). |
Expected skills
Students will acquire the conceptual tools, knowledge and practical rules for analysing industrial risk (Seveso Directive) and for EIA procedures (Environmental Impact Assessment).
|
Prerequisites
Basic knowledge of Boolean algebra and probabilities calculus.
|
Syllabus
1. General information on technological risk: definition, evaluation and acceptance of risk.
2. Methodologies for safety analysis: ' ' Elements of events algebra and probability calculus ' ' Identification of hazards ' Methodologies for analysing systems reliability ' ' Methodologies for analysing incidental sequences ' Risk Estimation ' 3. Major risks: ' ' Regulatory Aspects ' ' Modeling of incidental phenomena (releases, fires, explosions, dispersion) ' ' Vulnerability analysis ' ' Emergency planning 4. Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA): cognitive and regulatory tools. |
Laboratories and/or exercises
Students' proposal is to do practice in order to analyze the safety of an industrial system. Is provided for the use of the laboratory for accessing data base for historical analysis in the identification of hazards.
