Objectives of the course
The main goal of the course is to teach basic topological methods, with a view to applications in real and complex analysis, and geometry. In this sense, the course will also serve as a means to consolidate material from previous pure mathematics courses. It will help in the preparation for more advanced topics, which will then serve for the formulation of problems in Engineering.
Expected skills
Students will acquire knowledge of basic topology with applications and (in addition to assimilating specific material) the ability to tackle mathematical problems with greater abstraction and generality. Students will be able to grasp subtle details that arise in fundamental theorems of analysis, and will gain an understanding of the language of set theory and logical reasoning.
