Subject fundamentals
The Studio aims at developing practical knowledge of the nature and design and regulatory contents of an urban plan, at using some techniques of analysis and design, within a multidisciplinary perspective, a transcalar approach to the territorial government and an innovative approach to local planning and practices.
The workshop focuses on the case study of an urban plan (PRG) of a medium size town in Piedmont; students and teachers, with almost simulating a "Work Plan" and the expert advice, reviewing the draft of the PRG, then redesign parts of it, motivating goals and choices of content, in whole or in part different.
Expected learning outcomes
The knowledge and skills to be acquired:
- Knowledge and understanding of the nature, content, effectiveness of the urban plan in Italy,
- Understanding of the role of the plan within the local government system,
- Ability to apply analytical, project and urban design techniques,
- Knowledge of innovative experiments in the preparation of local development plan, and ability to apply them in the design process,
- Ability to assess the morphological outcomes of the choices of the Plan and express lines for the design of its implementation
- Ability to analyze the economic feasibility of the urban transformation proposals.
Prerequisites / Assumed knowledge
Basic knowledge of the Italian institutional system (competencies of administrative and political authorities at different levels and of the Italian planning system, instruments and basic elements of technical urban planning.
Contents
The studio (course) consists of 14 credits multidisciplinary which are strongly related:
1. Urban Planning (6 credits):The municipal development plan, the strategic environmental assessment of his choices, his project .
2. Evaluation and economic feasibility (4 credits): Revenue urban real estate values, costs urbanization and economic resources of the municipal development plan, feasibility of urban transformation.
3. Analysis and design of urban morphology (4 credits): Urban Design Urban Planning and Municipal.
Delivery modes
The course, as well as some lessons, mainly consist of work organized in small groups, educational visits, exercises, reports, designed to prepare intermediate or work specific to the different disciplinary contributions and the final dossier, aimed to present and discuss (in a more precisely defined by the teacher in the initial phase of the course) the documents arranged and to verify and consolidate the knowledge acquired progressively.

Assessment and grading criteria
The exam consists in a presentation (by small groups formed during the Atelier) deliverables (written reports, drawings, graphics, presentation Pwp, etc..) and discussion. The final grade (individual) will be referred to the whole of the work and will provide a summary of the proceedings of the three teachers.
