Objectives of the course
Aim of the course is to provide fundamental principles and methodologies on digital system design, using traditional method or innovative tools such as devoted CAD. In particular the course will be focused on PLC, PAL, microprocessors, DSP devices and related programming and developing languages.
Expected skills
Design of ac and dc digital system, along with the computer aid.
Fundamental of computer science: C language, Matlab
Information encoding. Algebraic commutation. Optimization of combined networks: Karnaugh maps, Quine-McCluskey method. Introduction to VHDL programming for hardware description, SIS program. Sequential circuits and their optimization. Consecutive synchronous machines. Consecutive asynchronous machines.
Microprocessors: Von Neuman architecture, Z80 microprocessors and assembly language, development tools.
DSP: Harvard architecture, ADSP 2100, ADSP 21020 and their languages, C-compiler, tools for developing software system.
Laboratories and/or exercises
Computer science lab for programming systems such as VHLD, SIS, Microcap, Pspice and different developing systems tool.
