Objectives of the course
Starting from basic radiative and non radiative process in semiconductor materials some of the most important devices used in optical communications and lighting are considered. Attention is devoted to the device structures, to their modelling to understand their characteristics and to some of the applications.
Prerequisites
Physics, Basics on electromagnetism and electronic devices.
Syllabus
The module is mainly devoted to the analysis of some of the most important optoelectronic devices.
- Description of the basic interaction in semiconductors material.
- Structures for carrier and photon confinement and related material and technologies
- LEDs
- Semiconductor lasers
- Photodiodes
- Optical Modulators
