Subject fundamentals
The course aims at proposing some guide lines for the environmental analysis and for the evaluation of the impacts produced by projects/plans/programmes on the environmental system. The objective of the course is to illustrate the problems that projects/plans/programmes produce on the environment, taking into consideration the different phases of their life-cycle.

Expected learning outcomes
At the end of the course the students will be able to detect the tools for discovering the effects that projects/plans/programmes generate on the environmental and socio-economic systems. Moreover, the students will be able to measure such effects, with reference to the different components and to the various stakeholders involved in the process.
Prerequisites / Assumed knowledge
Basic knowledge in the domain of the analysis of the environmental components.
Contents
The first part the course will aim at clarifying the methodological background of the environmental impact assessment procedures while the second part of the course will analyse case studies where the evaluation methods have been developed and applied in order to address real-world problems.

Delivery modes
Two assignments will be developed during the course, concerning the application of the evaluation techniques presented in the theoretical lessons. The assignment will be developed in working groups made up by two students and they will require the use of specific software. In particular, the first assignment concerns the application of a Multicriteria Analysis for the evaluation of a project while the second assignment is related to the analysis of a procedure in the domain of environmental impact assessment. Both the assignments must be submitted by the end of the course and they will be evaluated for the final exam.

Assessment and grading criteria
The final exam consists in a oral exam. The final mark will aggregate two marks: mark of the oral exam (70% of importance) and mark of the assignments (30% of importance).
