Objectives of the course
The aim of the module is to teach students some basic numerical methods in order to solve the most usual problems occurring in applications and to allow students to program the relative algorithms on the computer or to simply operate in a MATLAB environment.
|
Syllabus
1. Computer arithmetic, numerical cancellation, problem conditions and stability of an algorithm.
2. Numerical methods for linear systems (direct methods and iterative methods). 3. Data and function approximations (interpolation with polynomials and with splines, least square method). 4. Non linear equations. 5. Methods for calculating integrals. 6. Methods for solving ordinary differential equations. |
Laboratories and/or exercises
Solution of numerical problems and experimentation in a MATLAB environment.
