In order to be admitted to the final test the student needs to have obtained at least 176 ECTS in educational activities A, B, C, D, E and F across disciplinary-scientific sectors set out in the University Regulations for family of degrees No 4 (Architecture Sciences and Building Engineering).

The final test is worth four ECTS and consists of presenting and debating to a panel of faculty members a written and graphic portfolio carried out by the student that includes: a critical review of the educational path, including curricular and extra-curricular activities; and an in-depth analysis of a subject area deemed explicatory to highlight the candidate’s interests. The final test is assessed by the panel on a 0 to 6 point rating scale where 0 is the minimum and 6 the maximum.

Aims: documenting the candidate’s education with a view to facilitating access to the labour market and make an informed choice around further education.
Modes: it can consist of a critical review of relevant aspects of the educational path undertaken by the student, as well as an insight into subject areas complementary to it. The latter can be in the form of testing techniques and tools learnt, and/or conducting an in-depth analysis of a subject area.

In the light of the above students are recommended to collect material and examination documentation produced throughout the three years in a portfolio that will be used as the basis for the dissertation thesis.

The evaluation criteria are meant to value the ability to synthesize information contained in the documents, brevity and effective communication, and in the ability to reconstruct the milestones of the educational path, whilst the in-depth analysis will be marked against the candidate’s ability to place the thesis within the relevant framework of knowledge, and to define methodology and references that are pre-requisites of a correct investigation.

One or more professors who aree members of the Faculty Board shall supervise the preparation and revision of the portfolio. The final output is the result of the student’s individual work. The layout can be in A4 or A3 format, hard bound with rigid front and back cover, consists of:

' frontispiece
' brief summary outlining contents, aims, methodology, stages of work and outcomes
' justified list of bibliographic, scientific, cultural and documentary references
' drawings, boards, and/or written texts, totalling 20-30 A4 pages or 10-15 A3 pages.

Once signed off by the supervisor(s), at least one hard-copy of the portfolio shall be submitted at the final exam. The most suitable presentation mode can be identified at candidate’s discretion, including multimedia presentation; presentation shall not exceed ten minutes and will be followed by panel discussion.

The deadlines for each thesis examination session are set out in the Academic Calendar and displayed on the notice board of the relevant School and Faculty Office.
