Objectives of the course
Objectives of the course

- The course provides students with a basic culture on fundamentals of Electromagnetism and Wave phenomena, together with the ability of distinguishing between models and phenomena, and of applying physical models and mathematical concepts to practical problems in engineering science.
Prerequisites
Prerequisites

It is necessary to know and to be able to apply:
- the vector analysis;
- the differential and integral calculus (including line, surface and volume integrals).

FUNDAMENTALS OF METROLOGY Concept of physical quantity ' Fundamental and derived quantities ' International System of measurement units ' Uncertainty and its propagation ' Minimum squares method.
MECHANICS OF PARTICLE Kinematics: Definition of velocity and acceleration ' Uniform motion ' Uniformly accelerated motion ' Periodical motions and harmonic motion ' Composition of motions and relative motion. Dynamics: Laws of dynamics ' Active, reactive and inertial forces ' Weight, elastic and frictional forces ' Free body diagram ' Pulse theorem and conservation of linear momentum ' Torque pulse theorem and conservation of angular momentum ' Work_kinetic energy theorem. Conservative- and nonconservative vectorial fields ' Potential energy ' Theorem of conservation of mechanical energy and its extension to the case of dissipation forces ' Statics.
