Subject fundamentals
The module aims at supplying the fundamentals of fluid-flow machines and energy systems, with specific reference to the principles of operation, the constructive aspects, the evaluation of performance of both the machines and the plant in which they operate.
Expected learning outcomes
The module provides the students the abilities to make choices about the main energy systems, their components and their applications, taking in account the operational, energetic, economical and environmental aspects.
Prerequisites / Assumed knowledge
Preliminary basic knowledge of Thermodynamics and Mechanics.
Generalities of fluid-flow machines and energy systems; definitions and classifications
Basic Thermodynamics, Thermo Chemistry and Fluid Dynamics for application to fluid-flow machine and energy systems.

Delivery modes
In addition to lectures, the course programme includes classroom training and technical visits.

The classroom training consists of solving exercises and practical problems by applying the concepts covered in the lessons, with the aim to give the order of magnitude of the main parameters and to improve the understanding of the energy system operation.
