Subject fundamentals
Numerical series: 10 hours. Power series: 4 hours. Review of differential calculus for functions of two or more variables: 10 hours. Implicit functions and constrained extrema: 8 hours. Integral calculus for functions of two or more variables: 8 hours. Ordinary differential equations: 10 hours. Computer arithmetic (machine numbers, machine precision, stability, conditioning): 3 hours. Linear systems (direct methods: Gaussian elimination, PA=LU factorization, Cholewski factorization; iterative methods:: Jacobi and Gauss-Seidel methods and their convergence): 5 hours. Approximation (interpolation, splines, least squares): 5 hours. Nonlinear equations (bisection and Newton methods): 3 hours. Ordinary differential equations (one-step methods): 4 hours.
Delivery modes
For the numerical method topics 5 sections of computer activity of two hours each are scheduled, one for each of the main topics above. Using MATLAB software, the students will be asked to solve some proposed exercises, using the numerical methods presented in the lectures.

Assessment and grading criteria
Written test with both practicle and theoretical exercises on the program.
