The research doctorate is the highest academic title awarded in Italy and aims to give to the students the abilities to carry out highly qualified research activities in Universities, public and private bodies. The PhD course lasts 3 years and aims to give to the students a high level of specialization and the methodological instruments to become researchers.

The first stage of this project has coincided with the 18th cycle of the Doctorate Programs (2003 – 2005).

The students of Scuola Interpolitecnica benefited of the maximum degree of quality and efficiency, deriving from the synergy of the three Polytechnics.

  Duties and benefits of the students enrolled in SIPD
 

  • Their scientific work was constantly monitored by the international science board of SIPD, which they met periodically;
  • They conducted part of their research in the laboratories of the three partner schools, in cooperation with the relative faculties and PhD students;
  • They were expected to spend – during the three years of PhD training – from a minimum of six to a maximum of eighteen months in foreign structures (universities, research laboratories);
  • During the periods abroad the amount of the scholarship was increased 50%;
  • Travel and accommodation expenses relative to the periods abroad, fees and tuition for scientific conferences and/or courses attended in other institutions relevant to the completion of their doctoral work, and other personal costs connected with their research, were taken care of by the School;
  • They were not required to pay the tuitions fees to attend courses and lectures in the partner Institutions.
